The First Thing I Do In Any New Game: Open Settings

September 5, 2026 · Marek Novák

Before I play a single level, I open the settings. It's a habit that's saved me a lot of frustration, and I think more players should do it.

Text speed, animation speed, and effect quality are the big three. Slow text is the fastest way to make a great RPG feel like a chore, and it's usually a one-tap fix.

Audio matters too. A lot of games launch with music way too loud and blaring sound effects. Balancing those makes long sessions much more pleasant, especially on public transport.

Do this once at the start and the whole experience improves. It's five minutes that pays off for every hour after.
